Jane's Guide to Managing Oily Skin

janegee Clear Skin Corrective Cleanser
There are a lot of misconceptions about how to take care of oily skin. However, it’s simpler than you may think. Learning which products to use (and avoid) can make all the difference in the health and appearance of your skin. In this week's blog, I am going to share how to properly care for oily skin, as well as tips for keeping it looking healthy and radiant.

Taking Proper Care of Oily Skin

There are a few basic things you should know when it comes to treating an oily skin. The first being that you should never attempt to dry out your skin with sudsy cleansers or use products that will strip the skin of its natural oils. These practices change the pH of your skin and stimulate the oil gland causing your skin to go into hyperdrive, and in turn, produce even more oil. It can even potentially create a dry surface with oil trapped underneath. What you want to do is balance your skin by using an oil cleanser. Using an oil cleanser promotes the slow down of oil production in the skin, helping to balance natural oil production. Believe it or not, oil cleansing will leave your skin feeling fresh and hydrated without adding to the underlying problem.

You also want to look at your diet. Did you know that the foods you consume can also have an impact on your oil production? Certain foods such as sugar, dairy, and alcohol can stimulate the production of androgens which means more testosterone. Testosterone drives oil production. This is why men have oilier skin than women. All of this creates the perfect environment for acne to grow and flourish. Stick to eating as clean as possible. The more whole foods, the better!

Product Recommendations

Now let’s dive into which products to use for oily skin. I want to emphasize that you don’t need a million products to manage your skin. I truly believe your routine can be simple, easy, and effective!

1. Clear Skin

Clear Skin balances oil production, while also refining and moisturizing the skin to allow your skin to function properly. Once you start using it, you will notice a huge difference in how your skin looks and feels.

2. Elixir Corrective Serum

I cannot stress enough how important it is to balance your skin. I created the Elixir Corrective Serum to balance all skin types. It is rich in Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin B3 Niacinamide… three of our favorite skin-loving ingredients! This serum not only helps balance and hydrate the skin, but also helps to enhance the effectiveness of the products you use afterwards.

3. Olive Clay Mask
The go-to mask for oily skin. Olive clay contains minerals that help balance oiliness and assist in smoothing the appearance of the skin. It is also incredible for cleansing and purifying the skin by removing dirt and oil.

4. Face Oil No. 2

Our energetic face oils were designed to treat and protect different skin types. For oily/congested skin we recommend using Face Oil No. 2 as it really helps to balance oil production and improve any congestion.

5. Face Oil No. 4

Another one of our face oils that is great for oily skin is Face Oil No.4. If you have an oily skin that is also prone to acne we’d suggest trying this oil. Face Oil No. 4 is perfect for more acne-prone skin, as it helps to balance, decongest, and promote clear skin while keeping the skin hydrated and healthy.

6. Tomate Creme

You can’t forget about your daily moisturizer! Our Tomate Creme is a powerhouse moisturizer with a high concentration of Tomato Lycopene Extract, Vitamin C, and herbal infusions that naturally correct and smooth the skin. Perfect for helping to balance and clarify oily skin.

7. Tea Tree Floral Water

Floral Waters are our favorite way to replenish minerals and moisture throughout the day. While we have four variations, our Tea Tree Floral Water is my top choice for helping to keep the skin clean and help combat oily skin.

I also encourage you to set up a consultation with one of our skin therapists to learn more about your skin. Regular skincare treatments are also extremely helpful in achieving healthy skin. Here at janegee, our team focuses on fixing the underlying issues, instead of searching for quick fixes. Your skin therapist can help you understand what is causing any of your skin concerns and help you adjust your routines as needed.
